People often ask me if they can only do either a sitter session or a cake smash session which one should they choose? There are so many reasons why I like one session or another. If you can only do one I will always say a cake smash session. Sitter sessions are fun because they can’t crawl or run away from you and their smiles and personalities are really starting to develop. Cake smash sessions are such a huge milestone not only for baby but also for mom and dad.

There is something so special about designing a cake smash session for a baby. It’s amazing to think of how much a baby has grown and learn in a year. It really is incredible to know that they started as this tiny newborn that was dependent on someone else for everything. Now they are crawling, sometimes walking, starting to talk, playing, and eating independently.

Another reason why I encourage parents to do a cake smash photography session, is it allows them to really enjoy the moment. If you throw a birthday party for your baby you are focused on the guests, the food, running the whole party, and everything that comes with that.

Doing a cake smash session allows mom and dad to sit back and enjoy the moment. They can sit and be present and really soak in this monumental occasion. The first birthday is a huge moment not only for baby, but also for mom and dad.
